A play with Derridean deconstruction “Heterosexuality is the natural way for human beings to be.” The word ‘nature’ is understood to entail that which arises naturally; organic in form. To apply the term ‘natural’ is to describe that which is part of life as it has arisen, be that from deity, evolution or other means. The word describes that which is the binary opposite of ‘un-natural’....

Here’s Heidi Kuisma. I’ve known her for about four years through the elusive network that comprises of Glaswegian photographers. The wonderful person that she is, Heidi kindly gave me her Lomo LC-A that she’s never used, after seeing my post the other day. I’ve always wanted to get a replacement after mine got stolen along with my Hasselblad at Belladrum in 2009, but...

Last night I dreamed about getting 10 parking tickets all at once from an evil bunch of Glasgow City Council parking attendants. It was terrifying. …and also probably a sign that I take these things too much to heart.

After two years of parking in the same place up the road from my flat, Glasgow City Council have decided to start issuing fixed penalties to all of the residents who do likewise. The street is a small, beaten up street away from the city centre, where the yellow lines that were once in effect have long since been near completely eroded, and removed altogether in places. As a result, those that...

Portraiture Interview →
An interview I did for Mad About Portraits online has been put up. Go have a look if you’re interested in pictures of people. There’s plenty of interesting folk on there apart from me.

This week has been pretty non-stop. Despite being worn out and with a considerably lighter bank balance, it’s been great. Couchsurfing in particular has both forced and encouraged me to get out there and do things more, instead of sitting in as much as I might have before. It’s hard not to look at your city with fresh eyes when you have new people staying with you and doing just...

A night at Box. JagerBombs, White Russians and Jack Daniels to boot. Yet another example of the fact that when you can’t be bothered doing something, that you should go for it. If I hadn’t dragged myself up Sauchiehall Street, I’d never have ended up meeting the lovely Cassie below; nor found myself in her flat listening to vinyl and drinking vodka and (freshly squeezed) apple...

I read somewhere that “if you don’t get ‘the note’, you won’t ever really get Glasgow.” It’s become one of my favourite places to go. 13th Note, Glasgow, January 2011 Lumix DMC-GF1 - 25mm Elitar Soligor f0.95

This is Bidu. She was my couchsurfing host for the first day or so I was in Birmingham, and she was hilarious.. there was no awkwardness at all, and she introduced me to all sorts of crazy music and anime. As well as that, on the second night she took me and a couple of my pals from Birmingham to this party in ‘some block of flats’. That block of flats turned out to be an...

The past few days have been amazing. For the price of a bus ticket I’ve made friends out of total strangers and stayed at their house; partied on the 28th floor of a swanky city-pad above the Radisson; drunk a lot of alcohol, and met a whole load of really interesting and friendly people. This is the sort of trip I need to fold into my entire life to avoid stagnation. I’m sure...

elitist-hipster asked: First of all; I'm a big fan of your photography.

Moving on to my question, from where did you acquire your mandolin? Did you order it or buy it locally? What sort of mandolin is it?

As has become traditional, we shook off the groggy feeling left over from a night of Hogmanay drinking and headed off for a festive family curry… with more alcohol obviously.
