When you’re young, house parties were the choice for a drunken mass-socialising event. You’re underage and you have nowhere else to go. As you get older, you graduate into going to pubs and clubs. As people transition into it, house parties get forgotten or tamed down.

In doing so though, we lose something vital. At clubs the music is cranked up to ear splitting levels for atmosphere and dancing, but at the house party the music is always just in the background – the real focus, and the best part, is the getting slowly (or quickly!) intoxicated and talking to people. Just at the time where we most need a bit of grounding as we get released into the big bad world and drift away from people we considered friends at school, we manage to get pushed even further away by our move towards clubs rather than parties.

Bring back the parties I say.
