Nova Scotia, June 2019.

Coming to the end of a three month sabbatical I had from work, I took the penultimate week to head over to Canada to visit my parents. We spent time exploring Nova Scotia – touring the local vineyards, drinking coffee, and enjoying the sun. I made use of the opportunity to catch up on some reading and writing that I wanted to get done as well, cider in hand. Last time I was here I shot everything on digital, so this time I opted for 35mm, through my trusty Rollei 35S. The houses and landscape are all so colourful and different to Scotland, with their own quirks and personality, so I wanted to capture a bit of that – even if the results are a bit different to what I would usually do. Sometimes I think I spend too much time looking for ‘photos’ and not enough time just taking pictures of things I find interesting, that actually really give a flavour of what a place is like. Anyway, here they are.

  1. It looks peaceful in that area. Thanks for sharing those beautiful photos.

  2. I really like the vintage postcard look of these Steve, especially the grain and colours. It is a colourful place! What’s the phone box in the middle of the vineyard all about?

Are you Canadian and you moved to Scotland, or are your parents Scottish and moved to Canada?

    1. Thanks Dan! The phone box is in a vineyard/winery called Luckett’s. It’s run by an Englishman, and the box is their logo/symbol. You can call anywhere in North America for free from there, which is pretty cool.

I’m Scottish. My parents moved over there for work, so I head out to visit every so often. 🙂

      1. Reminded me of a few old phone boxes around here (Sussex) that have been repurposed as book swaps/libraries.

Ah I thought from your full name your roots were more likely Scottish! Great to have a “home from home” to visit in another country as a base to explore from.

  3. Fabulous photos! I’ve always wanted to see Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. It looks just beautiful in the Summer
