Hogmanay 2017

Disco Ball Flare

We’ve had a Hogmanay party for the past few years, and after the chaos of last time, I swore we would do something different this year. As it turns out, something different was in short supply, and we ended up hosting again, because hey, life is too short.

When you think about it, there isn’t much in the beginning of a new year; not at the base level anyway. I think the thing is though, that it’s important to take time out of our lives to step back and think about where we’re at; to take a look around and see who’s battling through alongside us, and who we’ve lost along the way. For me, Hogmanay is a chance for old friends to become new again, to collectively remember and forget all at once. To get drunk and dance under a disco ball. Rituals are important, even if the passing of time itself is pretty mundane.

So with that in mind, we tarted up the flat with lights, bought a load of frozen pizzas, had a drink, and danced to the Proclaimers at midnight while the dog looked on bewildered.

Happy New Year.
