This weekend passed, Grace and I headed up to Aberfeldy for the wedding of my old friends Michelle and Murray/Big Money/Magnus/That other nickname I promised I wouldn’t use any more. The day was set in the rather splendid looking Menzies Castle, and I brought along my camera to get some pictures. Thanks to Michelle’s dad, there was ‘enough booze to make you all go blind’, and it’s fair to say that we gave it a fair shot.
It was really great to see so many folks that I hadn’t seen in a long time, and even better to see one of my oldest pals get married in a ceremony that was infused with so much of their personality. The next day, sat in the pub with our curers, I remember looking around and feeling nothing but a warm glow, and deep happiness at being in that place with those people at that time… people that I definitely don’t see enough of. I’m going to make an effort to change that.
On top of all of that, part of me couldn’t help but reflect on how in the midst of all the fear and hate that we are being drowned in recently, this celebration of love, family, and friends was even more of a symbolic and defiant act – much like Scottish weddings have been historically; a reminder of what’s really important.
