Japan 2016: Tokyo on 35mm

Japan is one of the most photogenic places I have ever been. Long before we made the trip out last year, I dreamed of what the pictures would look like on film. The bright city lights, the colours, the people…

Because of that, I would have been crazy not to take a film camera or two on the travels. In fact, I ended up just taking one, and buying another when I was out there – the beautiful Canon 7. I had one a long time ago, but sold it to fund my first trip to the US, so it was nice to be able to pick one up in its home country.

Anyway, below is a collection of film shots from Tokyo, taken with both the M2 and the Canon 7. The shots are a bit random, as I used different cameras on different days. I think in future it’s probably a good idea to stick to a specific medium, rather than trying to mix and match. But hey. There will be another post or two to come from Kyoto, and then Osaka in due course. I’ve included the year in the title of this series since it was two full years ago (!), and I fully intend on returning to the land of the rising sun next year. Japan hasn’t seen the last of me.

  1. These photos look amazing! Teach me!!!

    1. Thanks friend! I shot them using a Leica M2 and a couple of lenses – either 50mm f1.2 or 35mm f1.4. It’s a mix of crappy expired day time film, and Fuji Superia or Natura 1600 for the night time shots. I processed them all myself.

  2. Beautiful set! Makes me want to go back right now.

  3. Godzilla appearance is imminent
