Back in 2014, we decided to ‘just have some folks round who could either stay or who lived close by’ for a party to mark the transition into a new year. Since then, we’ve pretty much had some kind-of similar gathering annually since (though COVID meant that things had to be tweaked somewhat for one of those).
The tradition continued this year, with folks coming round to drink tequila, act as DJ, and dance under the disco ball. Well, until it rather un-ceremoniously fell from the roof ten minutes before the bells, which I tried very hard not to take as a bad omen. Either way, the flat was adorned with a plethora of different visual treats, including projectors and CRT TVs and bits and bobs to make things more interesting. I took the opportunity to test out a Super 8 camera that I had bought recently… though in practice it was very difficult to focus through the tiny window in low light. I guess we’ll see how the footage comes out when the lab processes it. I dread to think.
As fun as it all was, I think that perhaps the time has come to do something different next year. Though as I read back through previous blogs this seems to be a recurring theme, so we’ll need to actually get our arses in gear if we want to make that a reality.
Happy New Year.
oh p.s. I think our pal Jeffels took many of these.
