2020 Portrait Shoots (vol ii)

In the summer of 2020, I was taking a lot of pictures. Unfortunately the second lockdown killed all of my enthusiasm for photography stone dead, and I was left with a pile of half finished blogs, rolls of undeveloped film, and little motivation to do much with them. I’m in the process of trying to work through the stash though, so here is a selection of pictures from three different portrait shoots in the early Autumn.

  1. I lived for a time in Glasgow. Less than a year. It was striking how much Edinburgh is given attention when Glasgow is just so much a better place to live in. The people , extensive green spaces and brilliant conversation that can take place between strangers. I used to read your blog way before I knew anything about film and had even written in to ask about lenses. Fast forward to now, and in 1 year alone I have exposed perhaps between 300-350 film rolls. My monthly usage now has dropped to 10-15 rolls. I use a Leica film camera and have also purchased another new Leica film camera. Photography is something that is creative and creativity can ebb and flow. It’s hard when something we love doesn’t give us joy. The people featured in your portraits are very striking and seem to have great personalities and hearts. Perhaps you could do a project about them. A sense of purpose and a theme often redirect creative energy and renews us. Thank you for your past gear reviews. All that collective wisdom documented in your blog definitely helped me.
